In order to become my best self, I have been thinking about when I am feeling at my best. This is usually when I am in flow. How to reach flow has been an important topic of research in the mainstream media for years now. Wikipedia defines it as following:

„In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity“ *
And a little later in the article you can find that: „Flow theory postulates three conditions that have to be met to achieve a flow state:

  • One must be involved in an activity with a clear set of goals and progress. This adds direction and structure to the task.
  • The task at hand must have clear and immediate feedback. This helps the person negotiate any changing demands and allows them to adjust their performance to maintain the flow state.
  • One must have a good balance between the perceived challenges of the task at hand and their own perceived skills. One must have confidence in one’s ability to complete the task at hand. *

From this research we can learn a lot of what it takes to create a challenge we will see through and be able to stick to. This is why I created the Level chart in day 1 and I wanted to understand a little better, how I can create the right challenge for myself. Flow is achieved in between the stage of something being too easy and too hard. This is why it is so important to spend some time assessing where you actually stand. This is one of the most important lessons I learned from my own Coach: most people overestimate themselves. So during this preparation week I am taking the time to review and really think about the right level of challenge for the 90 days.

Based on the flow research, during the 90 Day Energy Transformation Challenge I will
  1. Set clear goals for myself
  2. Create a tracker to check on progress and help with immediate feedback
  3. Set the goals in a way that I am in the space between two easy and too hard.

If you too are inspired to embark on your own challenge, first think about what it is that you really want to work on. I want you to really think about this because setting the right goals is an important step and should not be rushed. It is too easy to challenge yourself too much and get frustrated and I really want you to be set up for success. Use the Level Tool to assess your current stage or create your own if you are working on other areas.

The third important thing to complete before getting started is to think about your why.
Why do you need to make a challenge? Male any changes? If you can´t come up with a real Need to see this through, it will be hard to get through the rough times. If you truly challenge yourself,  you already know you will want to give up in between. Why do you need to do what you set out to do, even if you don´t want to? This is growth and this is why you need to know Your Why.

My why is that I need to build a Business that will support me – even though we are in a pandemic. I need to become an independent business owner and I need to do this because this is my life´s dream and I really want to achieve it. I also need to do this to be able to show up fully for my relationships and become the person I know I can be.
